Hark! brings the discovery of collectable trading card games into music making. Every preset has its own original illustrated card, rarity and lore, placing medieval instruments and fantasy sounds within a world of strange creatures, royal factions and forgotten relics.

Play the source instruments as they are, or transform them into unending drones, mesmerising choir beds, tumbling plucked patterns and evolving granular clouds. Every card gives you a sound to explore and make your own.

Medieval sources, without medieval limits

Create a slowly changing drone from Hurdy-Gurdy. Draw spacious, suspended harmonies from Choir and Chapel Organ. Turn Lute, Harp and Psaltery into delicate melodies, restless arpeggios or reversed fragments.

Hark!’s sources also include Cittern, Recorder, Shawm, Bagpipes, Rebec and Bowed Strings, alongside retro synth textures. Keep their distinctive instrumental character or stretch them into unfamiliar pads and atmospheres for ambient music, dungeon synth, dark folk, fantasy composition and game scoring.

Shape the sound. 

Break recordings into moving fragments with the granular engine, hold them in evolving clouds with Slow Drift Freeze, or add width and movement with three-voice Ensemble mode.

Use ADSR to move from sharp plucks to slow swells. Explore Reverse, Randomise and Storm, then add tape colour, echoes and reverb. Save the result as your own preset and build a personal library from the sounds included.

For an immediate way into playing, choose a scale and engage Chord Lock to play complex chords with one key. Feed those chords into the arpeggiator and shape their feel with strum, swing, humanise, rubato and roll.

Explore an illuminated world

Browse Common, Uncommon, Rare and Legendary cards, with holographic foil effects marking Legendary discoveries. Each preset brings its own artwork and lore into an animated interface filled with characters, creatures and marginalia.

Look closely: a secret puzzle unlocks an additional hidden card and playable preset.

Expand when you want to

This purchase includes Hark! and its 40 base presets.

Two optional expansions add 30 cards and presets each: Heraldic & Legendary explores courtly strings, ceremonial winds and plucked patterns; Curses & Beasts brings Hurdy-Gurdy drones, occult textures and spectral voices.

Both are sold separately. Each contains a fixed collection of sounds and artwork, with no blind or randomised purchases.
