What does Fabula Audio make?

We create virtual instruments, preset expansions and royalty-free music libraries for composers, producers, musicians, filmmakers and game developers. Our focus is medieval sound, fantasy atmosphere and creative sound design.

How would you describe the Fabula Audio sound?

Historical character with room to explore. Early instruments, voices and acoustic textures sit alongside synthesis and atmospheric sound design. Some sounds retain their natural character, while others become drones, pads, evolving textures and unfamiliar sonic worlds.

How can I hear about new releases?

Virtual Instruments and Software

Are your instruments playable software or just preset packs?

Our virtual instruments are complete, independently playable software instruments with their own sound engines and included libraries. You can perform them directly, adjust their controls and effects, and create sounds of your own.

Preset expansions are separate additions to an instrument. Each expansion’s product page identifies the instrument it requires.

Do I need Kontakt or another sample player?

No. Our instruments do not require Kontakt or an additional sample player. Use the plugin version inside a compatible DAW, or open the standalone version to play without a DAW.

Do your instrument sound libraries contain AI-generated audio?

No. Our instrument libraries use conventionally recorded audio. They do not contain generative-AI audio or sounds extracted from AI-generated music.

Can I edit the presets and save my own sounds?

Yes. You can reshape the included presets using the instrument’s controls and effects, then overwrite a preset or save your changes as a new sound.

Which operating systems and plugin formats do you support?

We offer instruments for macOS, Windows and Linux, with plugin and standalone versions. Available plugin formats include AU, VST3 and AAX, depending on the product and operating system.

Do the instruments need an internet connection or activation?

Our instruments work offline once downloaded and installed. No iLok, activation or account is required to run them.

What do expansion packs include?

Expansion packs add new presets and sound collections to a compatible instrument. Their contents, requirements and installation instructions are listed on the relevant product page. An expansion does not include the main instrument unless explicitly stated.

Are updates included?

Our virtual instruments include free updates for life.

Royalty-Free Music Libraries

How are the music libraries different from the instruments?

Our royalty-free music libraries contain finished audio tracks for use in your projects. Depending on the release, they also include stems and MIDI files.

Virtual instruments are software you play to create your own performances and sounds. Music libraries provide existing recordings you can use and adapt.

Do you use AI when producing your royalty-free music?

Yes. Our finished royalty-free music releases can combine live musicianship, live ensemble performance, conventional recording, software and hardware synthesisers, AI-assisted workflows and generative tools.

The combination varies between releases and tracks. This answer concerns our royalty-free music releases and their supplied stems, not our virtual instruments which do not use AI.

Do you work with real musicians?

Yes. Live musicianship and ensemble performance are part of our royalty-free music production process, alongside the other methods described above. The combination varies by release.

What are stems, and how are they produced?

Stems are separate audio parts of a track, supplied alongside the full mix so you can adjust, layer and rearrange elements within your project.

Stems in our royalty-free music packs are often separated from the master recording using AI-assisted separation. They are generally supplied with the original effects retained, rather than as dry, individually recorded session parts.

Why are the stems supplied with effects?

Reverb, compression and other processing contribute to the atmosphere of the original music. Retaining those effects preserves its character and gives you material suited to layering, editing and further sound design.

Licensing and Usage

What does royalty-free mean?

You can use the licensed music and the output of our instruments in your projects without paying us additional royalties for each use, subject to the relevant product licence.

Royalty-free does not mean that the original files can be redistributed or resold.

Can I use your products commercially?

Yes. Our licences cover personal and commercial projects, including music releases, films, games, videos, podcasts, advertising and client work.

You can incorporate the supplied music, stems and samples into your own productions, and commercially release music created with our instruments.

Do I need to credit Fabula Audio?

Credit is not required when using our royalty-free music, although a mention is always appreciated.

Can I use the music on YouTube and other monetised platforms?

Yes. Our royalty-free music is licensed for use on monetised platforms. We do not issue Content ID claims against licensed uses of our music.

If you receive a claim involving our audio, contact us with the details.

Is there a subscription or a limit on the number of projects?

No. Our licences are one-time purchases with no subscription or recurring licence fees. You can use your licensed products across multiple personal and commercial projects.

Can I install an instrument on more than one computer?

Yes. You can install our instruments on machines you own. Your licence does not permit sharing or redistributing the software to other users.

Can I resell the sounds or use them to create another sample library?

No. You may not redistribute or resell our music, stems, samples or instrument sounds as standalone audio files or as another sound library.

Instrument sounds must not be used to train generative audio models. Please refer to the relevant product licence for the full terms.

Purchasing, Downloads and Support

How do I receive my purchase?

Our software and music libraries are supplied as digital downloads. A download link is emailed immediately after purchase.

If it does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder. If you still cannot find it, contact us and we will help.

What file formats are included?

Software products include the installers and plugin or standalone formats listed on their product pages.

Royalty-free music is supplied as high-quality WAV audio. MIDI files are included with our dark fantasy music packs. Check each listing for its exact contents.

What should I do if an instrument or download is not working?

Email us with your order details, operating system, DAW and a description of the problem. Include any error message or screenshot that could help us identify the issue.

What is your refund policy?
